Since 1984 the Northwest Industrial Gas Users has been
organized as an effective trade association representing
end-users of natural gas with major facilities in the
states of Oregon, Washington & Idaho.
We provide an information service to our members and
participate in regulatory matters that affect member
interests in federal and state arenas. Our members
reflect diverse industries: food processing, pulp &
paper, wood products, aluminum, steel, chemicals,
electronics, aerospace, electric generators and large
hospitals.
Operating on principles established with the founding of
the organization, NWIGU and its members believe market
forces should govern properly functioning competitive
markets to benefit all consumers. NWIGU believes there is
a necessary role for regulation with monopolies which is
how our natural gas distribution and interstate pipeline
transportation systems are structured. The third key
principle by which we operate is that this regulation of
utilities and pipelines should support open access &
cost-based rates for end-users.
It is impossible to make optimum energy purchase decisions
without an understanding of current regulatory and market
conditions. NWIGU offers its members this critical
information and insight.
Our organization holds quarterly meetings and constantly
supplies our members with important updates and market
information. Our regulatory advocacy is similarly focused
on the bottom line.
We save money for our members.
